Foods In MyNetDiary

What Is Custom Food?

Custom Food is you personal extension of food catalog containing 1,725,000 verified foods. When you don't find your food in the catalog, use Nutrition Facts from food packaging to create Custom Food. Enter food serving and calories once, you will be able to find and log this food whenever you eat it in the future. MyNetDiary finds custom food by name and calculates calories in your eaten servings.

Save time on entering nutrients for the serving: send Nutrition Facts to PhotoFood service, the nutrients will be added to your food within 24 hours. MyNetDiary will calculate nutrients in all of your logged servings.

Add barcode to Custom Food, you will be able to find the food by scanning its barcode.

Choose an icon for your food, you will recognize this icon in food search, on analysis screens and in reports.

Custom Food Header

Enter short Food Name different from names of other foods logged by you. MyNetDiary will help you find this food by its name, so include a couple of meaningful words you can remember about this food, e.g. “whole milk”

Serving Size and Serving Weight

Serving Size is found at the top of the food label, for example:

Enter serving as seen on Nutrition Facts. If you eat a different amount, you will be able to adjust the amount in food log. Please ignore Servings Per Container information, do not confuse it with Serving Size.

If available, Serving Weight in grams should be entered SEPARATELY from the Serving Size. If you enter grams, you will be able to weigh your portions with kitchen scale and log exact eaten food grams. Without grams you will have to estimate eaten servings.

Tip 1: if you enter Serving Size “1 oz” and Serving Weight “28g”, you will be able to log your food in oz or grams.

Tip 2: Notice that “1 fl oz” is a unit of volume (fl oz of milkshake weighs less than 28g), so you have to enter one or more “fl oz” into Serving Size field. The same is true about ml (milliliter) units of volume.

Calories in Serving

Enter calories as seen on Nutrition Facts. When you log a different eaten amount, MyNetDiary recalculates eaten calories.

Tip: If you don't have Nutrition Facts for your custom food or recipe ingredient, search the web while adding calories in to food name. For, example, see the results for calories in summer squash.

Quick Calories vs. Custom Food

MyNetDiary allows logging Quick Calories, which is a faster method compared to creating Custom Food. Quick Calories in your log spoil nutrient analysis you might want to do in the future. With custom food you can enter calories only, then add nutrients later on, MyNetDiary will recalculate nutrients for all logged entries.

Custom Nutrients & Details

Custom Nutrient screen allows you to enter food nutrients as seen on Nutrition Facts. In addition to defining nutrients, you can scan food barcode for future lookups and choose an icon making your food reports even more useful.

Important: While entering nutrient values, make sure they correspond to serving size entered on Custom food header screen. The food package can contain one or more servings. You should enter nutrients per serving size as printed on Nutrition Facts.

Selecting Nutrients to Edit

You can add all nutrients you see on printed Nutrition Facts or add only the nutrients you are tracking so far. Select one of nutrient sets to focus on:

My Nutrients set includes every nutrient with “Show On Dashboard” or “Show In Food Log” setting on.

Nutrition Facts Percentages

Percentages on Nutrition Facts allow you to evaluate quickly whether a food is rich with a particular nutrient and compare percentages for different foods. MyNetDiary stores exact nutrient values and allows you to choose how percentages are calculated on Food Label:

Verifying Nutrition Facts

If you want to verify MyNetDiary Food Label against printed Nutrition Facts, make sure the serving is the same, then compare actual nutrient values, not percentages. If you do not have actual values for Vitamins & Minerals, select “Show % Daily Value” option and compare percentages.

PhotoFood Service

While creating Custom Food, instead of adding nutrient values manually, you can send photos of Nutrition Facts. Our PhotoFood team will enter nutrients for you withing the next 24 hours. You can request an update of an existing catalog food by sending us food label pictures.

PhotoFood Example 1: Organic Valley Whole Milk

Notice that the first photo captures vendor name Organic Valley and food name Whole Milk. The second photo captures nutrition facts.

PhotoFood Example 2: Triscuit Thin Crisps

A single photo captures brand name, food name and nutrition facts.

Tracking PhotoFood

Normally, you send photos, log the food and let nutrients be completed for you. If you want to see the status of PhotoFood order, open PhotoFood screen. You can also see the status of multiple orders on My Foods screen, in PhotoFoods section.

If PhotoFood team cannot complete your order, they will provide a message explaining how to fix the order. For example, if photo is unreadable, you may retake the photo and resend the order.

Please notice that you cannot modify the food manually or resend the photos while there is an incomplete PhotoFood order for this food.

Restaurant Update

If a food, restaurant or vendor cannot be found in the catalog, send menu photos or any relevant details. PhotoFood team will improve food catalog based on your requests.

Restaurant Menu Example: Panera Bread

Please notice that menu photos should have calorie values published by the vendor.
